Honorarium

An Alternative Pricing Policy

Traditionally, there is an expectation that when things are presented to you for hire or for sale, you will be charged at the rates decided by the market-place.

I have a different view.

The performance services I am able to provide are borne out of my interests and skill-set. The skills I have, come from experience from on and behind stage, in performance, direction and management.

The things that I make are generally created out of ‘found’ objects or photographs that I have taken.

Pricing for services

I will not charge you for my training or experience, or for the time it has taken to develop my craft.

I will not charge over and again for the fact that I have learnt something that I use in my practice.

If you are being funded to produce your art, then you can pay the ‘going monetary rate’ for the service. (In fact, arts funders won’t have it any other way).

In all other cases where you are not receiving payment to create or perform; we will establish what it is you want and then look at how much you are able to pay, or what you might exchange for my help in getting it.

We can negotiate a cash rate or a skills/services exchange or a barter agreement (a direct exchange of goods).

Whatever is most conducive.

Pricing for performances

I perform guided walks, storytelling and card magic when I’m out on the road (see: Orson) for which there is no applied fee. There is a ‘busker’s cap’ for donations, based on the balance between how much you enjoyed what you experienced with what you can afford/are willing to pay. And this can stretch beyond cash and be a skills/services exchange or a barter agreement. Or you can just ‘watch and go’.

Performances are given without expectation of reward.

Interact with it or not; like you might, given any situation you have not specifically paid to go and see; however, any cash paid will go towards keeping the ‘show on the road’ … literally.

These ‘shows’ are also available for booking as per ‘Pricing for services’, above.

Pricing for things I have made

I will not charge you a ‘marked-up’ price based on the amount of profit I think I may be able to get.

I will charge an amount that covers the cost of bought materials; marked up to the nearest pound or for more elaborate items the nearest five pounds or a skills/services exchange or a barter agreement.

In the end, let’s not let cash, or the lack of it, deter you from contacting me…
